Steven Newcomer

Steven Newcomer was born on September 13, 1954, and passed away due to complications from cancer on June 26, 2017, at his home in Rockport.

Steven surpassed the five year survival date from point of diagnosis, and persevered in spite of a particularly difficult and painful treatment regimen. He was brave and uncomplaining throughout the ordeal, and maintained his sense of humor and love of life until the end.

Steven was employed by the Zachry Group in San Antonio for his entire working career. He was a loyal employee, and retired after over forty years of service only when the difficulty of his treatment and the ravages of the disease prevented him from performing his duties according to his personal high standards. Steven was an ardent fisherman, and loved Rockport, Texas. He had many friends and neighbors, not only in Rockport but also San Antonio, who were supportive of him throughout his treatment regimen, and the family is very grateful for their assistance and wishes to express their gratitude for all of the aid provided especially in his last months at his home in Rockport.

Steven is survived by his wife, Janie Newcomer; son, Robert Newcomer; step-son, Thomas Alaniz; step-daughter Kasey Perez; brothers John Hildebrand and wife Carol, and David Newcomer and wife Mary; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Steven is predeceased by his first wife, Beth Newcomer; father, David J. Newcomer Sr.; mother, Billie J. Newcomer; and brother, Daniel J. Newcomer.

A celebration of life will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m.
