• Sarah Pace | Pleasanton Express Payton Jaksik and Gabe Pace are gearing up for the Kiddie Corral on Saturday, March 11. Bring the family out for a free fun filled afternoon.

Do you have the guts to be a judge?

Cowboy Homecoming and Turn N Burn are joining together March 9-11 to bring you the biggest party and cook-off Pleasanton has ever seen. It’s estimated 150 teams or more will enter the contest which takes place at the Atascosa River Park. Competition is fierce in three categories: mouth watering beef brisket, pork spare ribs and chicken.  Officials are expecting that 400 judges will be needed to determine the best of the best in each category. To be a judge, you must be over the age of 18. All you have to do is visit the judge’s tent by 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 to sign up.

Turn N Burn prize money - one of the largest pay out in the nation - will be given to the first through fifteenth places in each cook-off category. The top five overall winners will also receive cash prizes.  A Kids’ Que competition will also be held for cookers ages 4-17. Watch for more details in future issues of Pleasanton Express and on our Facebook page.

The day event is FREE and expected to draw thousands to the park to eat, drink and play. Features include a carnival, arts & crafts vendor booths, food and drink court, Turn N Burn and Kids’ Que cook-off and the first ever Kiddie Corral. The Kiddie Corral is free and created to be a prized place for parents to bring their kids, ages 2-10, for fun, games and prizes. The Kiddie Corral will be open at the park from 12:00-4:00.

The Kiddie Corral will include games such as: Digging for Gold, River Roping Cowboy Ducklings, Sack Races, Cowboy Ring Toss, Roping the Sawhorse, Wanted Outlaw Photo Booth and Crayola Corral. Prizes for all children playing will be handed out.

Plan on making Saturday, March 11 a fun-filled family day starting with The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce Parade at 10 a.m. After the parade, head to the Atascosa River Park where young and old alike can spend a fun cool March day with friends and family making Cowboy Homecoming/Turn N Burn memories.

Again, entry to the cook-off grounds and Cowboy Homecoming events are absolutely free.
