Zinc Resources withdraws permitFree Access

The proposed site of the plant sits next-door to a residential neighborhood in Whitsett and adjacent to the Baptist Church.

The air permit application for an Electric Arc Furnace Byproduct Zinc Recycling Plant in Whitsett has been withdrawn by the applicant, Zinc Resources LLC.

Opposition soon arose from Whitsett and Atascosa County residents once they learned of the proposed facility at 657 FM Road 99 in Whitsett in northern Live Oak County. Two public meetings were held with the community and Zinc Resources representatives in February. At the meeting on Feb. 10, Zinc Resources CEO Ron Crittendon was asked by several residents if the company was still planning to locate to the area. Crittendon answered, “That’s the one question we’re going to have to wait right now on.”

Zinc Resources will seek authorization in another city.
