In these times, some schools have eliminated some sports and even the Physical Education (P.E.) programs that keep kids active. In 2007 the NFL started this program to help the youth of our nation to stay healthy and maintain wellness.
Here is an excerpt from NFL.com about the NFL PLAY 60 program:
"Our mission: To make the next generation of youth the most active and healthy.
In October 2007, the NFL launched NFL PLAY 60, a national youth health and fitness campaign focused on increasing the wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
Designed to tackle childhood obesity. NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL’s long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of organizations. In addition to national outreach and online programs. NFL PLAY 60 initiative is prominent during the NFL’s in-school, after-school and team-based programs. The NFL PLAY 60 initiative is prominent during the NFL’s key calender events, including Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Kickoff and Thanksgiving and is supported by many NFL players and coaches year round. To date, the NFL has dedicated over $200 million to youth health and wellness through NLF PLAY 60."
Jason Witten has been a big time supporter in this program as well as a few of his own programs here in Texas, helping battered women shelters with male mentors that seek to demonstrate positive male behavior to the children living in these shelters.
Other supporters in NFL PLAY 60 are some other big time NFL names in Drew Brees, Brandon Jacobs, Hines Ward, Mario Williams, Troy Polamalu and many more. There are so many other programs that the NFL and people associated with the NFL have started. The players and coaches spending there own time and money to help, like the "Take A Player To School" program. Some involved players in this program are Josh Cribbs, Calvin Johnson, Laurence Maroney, Brandon Jacobs (Mentioned before in NFL PLAY 60 program} and Dwight Freeney and many more.
With the popularity of the game played on the field, there is also a lot going on with programs and foundations started by big name players, coaches a franchises that are putting fourth their own time and money to help the future of a great nation, in turn having an impact on the world. The youth that are impacted will in turn have an impact on the future of our nation and possibly this world we live in.
