Yesteryear Festival

I would like to thank all volunteers and the Longhorn Museum for putting this festival on every year. For 20 years these tireless folks have put aside their lives on a busy Saturday to allow young and old to learn, remember and enjoy the history and lifestyle of our ancestors.

When you walk into the museum there are ladies making butter by hand, teaching quilting with yo yo’s, lace making and others. You can get your initials branded onto a board to take home with you and you can learn the different regions of Mexico by the dances and costumes of the Ballet Folklorico.

Storytelling by Mrs. Dawn Murray is always a treat for young and old and learning to make twins in a cradle with a handkerchief with Mrs. Thelma Cardwell Cale is always a favorite. This year on display for the children were goats, sheep, a horse, a donkey and a mule.

The Sons of the Confederate and a Spanish Soldier were there showing items from history including muskets and firing them for onlookers.

I have been taking my granddaughter to this festival for 10 years and recently I have added her sisters to the mix. There is no fee for this wonderful event and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this great festival to spend time with your family and a great group of people who enjoy showing young and old what it took to live many years ago.
