Women Eagles win fourth-straight 29-4A title

A hat-trick by senior Madelyn Bird and another clean sheet helped the Pleasanton Women Eagles’ soccer team to a 4-0 win over La Vernia on Friday, March 6, and their fourth consecutive 29-4A title.

Bird picked up three goals and Kaitlyn Garcia had one to her name. Picking up assists were Carly Esquivel, Zoei Diaz and Trinity Garcia.

The win marked the fifth consecutive clean sheet for goalkeeper Sydney Merecka. In that five-game span, Pleasanton (18-8-1, 5-0) has outscored their opponents 26-0 en route to an unblemished district record so far.

The win also extended Pleasanton’s district win streak to 24 games. They have won their last eight while shutting out their opponents.

The Women Eagles will resume district play on the road on Tuesday, March 17, at Gonzales before playing their regular season finale at home against non-district foe Salado on Friday, March 20 at 5 p.m.
