Woman carjacked at gunpoint

A horrific scene that has been played out on television hundreds of times came true for a local 33-year old woman in Poteet Sunday afternoon.

According to Lt. Frank Leal with the Poteet Police Department, the woman was getting ready to leave the Dollar General store in Poteet around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. She entered her car and a man popped up from the backseat of her SUV. “At that point, a male subject pointed a gun to her head, and demanded she take him to Houston,” said Leal. The woman fearful for her life followed the man’s demands and started driving towards San Antonio. The suspected kidnapper made contact with an unknown person in the 1700 block of FM 1516 in East Bexar County. He abandoned the woman and was picked up by another person.

The suspected kidnapper left the woman on the side of the road by her vehicle. The suspect had tied her arms with zips and her feet with ropes. A citizen reported concerns about the woman to law enforcement. The victim was found unharmed but traumatized. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Poteet Police with the case. “This is an active case,” said Leal. “We urge anyone with information to contact the Poteet police at (830) 276-3815.”

The suspect is described as a stocky male, possibly Hispanic, wearing a black jacket.
