William Lamar Gibbens of Campbellton, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born August 10, 1931 in LaPryor, to Roy and Viola (Williams) Gibbens. He married the love of his life, Helen Clyburn, on February 10, 1951; they were married 67 years. William served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954. He retired from the oilfield after 45 years. William was also a Beefmaster Cattleman.
William is survived by his wife, Helen Gibbens; children, Brenda Kunce and Bill Gibbens, Jr. and wife Eileen and siblings, Peggy White and husband R.W., Tommy Gibbens, Daryle Gibbens and wife Jody and Starlan Daughtery. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Travis Oldroyd, Trisha Oldroyd, April Chan and husband Tyrone, Shanna Kulesza and husband Dylan, Shane McPhail and wife Karina, Robbie McPhail Jr. and wife Megan, Elizabeth Gibbens, Mary Gibbens, Mackenzie Snider and Zac Snider and great-grandchildren, Brodee Oldroyd, Dalton Oldroyd, Hannah Chan, Sarah Chan, Elianah Chan, Michaelah Chan, Ethan Kulesza, Skyler McPhail, Chloe McPhail, Evan McPhail, Syriana McPhail, Atalie McPhail and Briella McPhail.
William is preceded in death by daughters, Shirley Oldroyd and Linda McPhail; parents, Roy and Viola Gibbens and siblings, Roy Jr., Lucille, Lena Mae, Mary, Margaret, Jamie and Nina.
Visitation will be conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Campbellton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in William’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
