I feel like I need to tell this story about hometown feelings. On Christmas eve 2004, I had been on chemo over a year. Robert took me to get my treatment and then we were going shopping. My nurse instead told me I was not going shopping, that I was going to the hospital to get a blood transfusion. We got home early on Christmas.
I went to Dowdy’s Western Store. They were already closed but Craig Dowdy was still there. He opened up the shop just for me, and my sister-in-law was with me, too. When I was leaving he even gave me a big roll of wrapping paper. To me, this is what Christmas is about.
I will never forget it. I miss that store, but I will never forget that day. Craig Dowdy, I will always be your friend and your family’s friend. God will bless you and your family forever!
