Weather prediction for Turn-n-Burn: Smokey, with a big chance of BBQ

200 teams registered; parade set for Saturday at 10 a.m.

Rain or shine, it’s on… that is what the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce promises for the 6th annual Turn-N-Burn BBQ Cook-Off taking place March 11-12, 2016 at the Pleasanton River Park.

The event, sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association (IBCA), will award a record amount of cash plus prizes to the winners, and hopefully the rain that is predicted to fall will do so all before Friday.

Friday night’s musical entertainment is Brandon Rhyder. Tickets are $15 or save $5 by purchasing both nights for only $30.

Since the parade had to be cancelled for the Cowboy Homecoming celebration due to heavy rains, Turn-n-Burn has scheduled a shorter version. The parade will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. The judging of parade entries will start at 9 a.m. Line-up will take place around the Pleasanton Junior High area and plans are to start the parade at the corner of Bryant and Goodwin Streets, turn on Smith Street, then on Hunt Street and then head down Main Street and end at the Main Street park entrance. Pleasanton Mayor Clint Powell will serve as Grand Marshal.

After the parade, make plans to stay and help judge the great-tasting barbecue. Admission to the park is free and the fun activities will include a carnival, sports bar area and Saturday night dance featuring Casey Donahew and LC Rocks. Tickets are $20 for the dance.
