Early voting is underway for the March Primary election and as of Monday, Janice Ruple, Election Administrator said that turnout was light.
I realize that many registered voters actually prefer going out on election day – which, by the way, is next Tuesday, March 6 – to cast their ballot.
Me? I really try to vote early when I can. That way, I know that I won’t forget or get busy and run out of time. Plus, I always know where to go.
The problem isn’t with people forgetting to vote either early or on election day. The problem is that they don’t care to vote. Their apathy is the main issue.
Too many believe that their vote doesn’t matter or they may think – especially in local races – they know who will win so they really don’t need to vote.
There have been many elections won by the underdog because others thought that their candidate was a shoe in. That happened to my father many years ago when he ran for public office and lost. Every vote counts. Yes, even yours.
The way I see it, we shouldn’t take for granted the process of electing our officials. Let your right to vote be exercised.
Vote early if you can. The Atascosa County Election Administrator’s office is open now until this Friday, March 2 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. They are located at 914 Main St., Suite 115 in Jourdanton. For information, call 830-769-1472.
If you are heading out next Tuesday and don’t know where you vote, the polling locations are included on our website at www.pleasantonexpress.com as well as on our Facebook page.
Please vote in this and future elections.
