Jackie Milligan of Poteet, lady BBQ Pitmaster, could win up to $15,000 for her charity, but she needs your help.

Milligan won the Women’s Fire & Ice BBQ challenge at the Turn ‘N Burn Festival this past March. As a result of winning the women’s challenge, she won the chance to head to the World Food Championship in Orange Beach, Alabama next month to compete among the best of the best.

The women’s fire and ice series is composed of three challenges. The first challenge is a social media challenge, in which the lady with the most votes wins money for her charity of choice.

“My charity of choice is First Chance Foundation, which helps disadvantaged kids in need. I am up against nine other ladies,” said Milligan.

Voting requires a Facebook account. Just click in the link and “Like” Jackie Milligan. It is that simple.

She first started competing a couple of years ago, at cook-offs that her husband Tim entered.

“I would enter the entry level categories like desserts – and won. Then I entered the chef’s choice categories at cookoffs -and won.”

Something in her sparked and she told herself not to be intimidated by all the men competing in the meat categories. She set her fears aside, bought a user friendly pit by Pit- maker, (a custom pit builder out of Houston) attached it to their BBQ trailer and jumped into a full blown sanction bbq competition. She won Reserve Grand Champion that day – and was hooked!

She wanted to learn as much as she could about being the best she could be, and becoming a leading Lady Pitmaster.

“The men took notice of me as a true competitor when I competed alongside my husband as two teams, and together won Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion.”

“November 2017 – The most amazing opportunity came knocking on my door. I was blessed to be an Ambassador to Chupacabra Rubs located here in my hometown. Since then, I’ve been competing as Team Chupacabra and it’s been incredible. This is what I love. And I am blessed to say it’s also what I do.

“From my viewpoint as a woman here in Texas – entering a male dominate bbq competition was not easy. I didn’t want to fail, or get laughed at. Here in Texas – we have a lot of big tall cowboys – and here I am a short petite lady. I’ve learned to set my fears aside and continue to give it my all. You’ve got to have confidence, passion and dedication in anything you set out to do, in order to be successful in life. And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. I’ve come a long way since my 1st cookoff, and have a couple of mentors that I look up to for advice and support.”
