Volleyball roundup: Polasek sets it up, Jourdanton knocks down Natalia in 30-3A openerFree Access

The Jourdanton Squaws overcame a first set loss to take down Natalia in four sets to open District 30-3A (16-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-8).

Following the first set loss, Natalia seemed to be in control with a 7-1 lead in the second set. Eventually, a 10-1 run by the Squaws completed the second set comeback.

From there, the Squaws were in control. In the final set, they used a 16-5 run to secure the win.

Senior setter Katlyn Polasek found her groove directing the Squaw offense as she registered 32 assists in the win.

Junior hitter Sydney Morneau made the most of Polasek’s work, finishing the match with 14 kills.

Junior libero Emma Roach finished the match with an unofficial 18 digs.

Jourdanton (8-18, 1-0) will host Laredo Harmony on Sept. 27.

Lady Eagles sweep Lady Aggies

The Pleasanton Lady Eagles started and finished strong in their third district game against the Poteet Lady Aggies, winning in straight sets (25-13, 25-13, 25-15).

Freshman Sadie McAda led the Eagles with seven kills while Freshman Victoria Urbanczyk and junior Brianna Garcia had three. Brianna Garcia had five blocks and senior Madeline Keylich had four.

The Poteet Aggies fought hard in the three sets with five kills from senior Aurianna Villalta, four from junior Richelle Gutierrez, senior Clarissa Benavidez, Senior Tahis Ramirez ,and junior Brooke Rasmussen all had two kills. The Aggies held their own with numerous blocks from Aurianna Villalta and Richelle Gutierrez.

Pleasanton (13-18, 2-1) will travel to Pearsall on Tuesday. Poteet (0-2 in 30-4A) will host Brooks Academy on Tuesday.

Cowgirls stay hot for sweep of rival Three Rivers

The McMullen County Cowgirls picked up their second-straight district win on Friday with a sweep of Three Rivers (25-10, 25-23, 25-20).

Senior Madison Sherrer led the way for McMullen with four kills and two aces, both team-highs. Right behind her were senior Caroline McClaughery and Caina Sneed with three kills each.

Sneed finished the match with a team-high seven assists. McClaugherty finished with the team-high four blocks.

Senior Brenda Beyer had the team-lead with four digs.

McMullen (13-13, 2-1) will travel to Benavides on Tuesday looking to maintain this recent form.
