Jourdanton finds tough competition at Corpus Christi Spikefest
The Jourdanton Squaws ran into tough competition at the Corpus Christi Spikefest over the weekend.
Jourdanton dropped their first three matches of the tournament to Corpus Christi Carroll (12-25, 21-25), Rockport-Fulton (25-23, 8-25, 21-25) and Gregory-Portland (4-25, 4-25).
On Saturday, the Squaws fell in straight sets to Callalen (17-25, 20-25) before rebounding with a win over Carroll in straight sets (25-11, 25-9). They would fall in their final match of the tournament against George West (25-19, 22-25, 12-25).
Jourdanton (1-6) will travel to Poth for dual matches with New Braunfels Christian and Poth on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Charlotte gets hot for three wins at Pettus
The Charlotte Trojanettes didn’t let a slow start keep them from posting a 3-1 record at the Pettus Tournament on Saturday.
Charlotte fell to Annapolis in their first match (21-25, 19-25). They then rattled off two wins over Victory Christian Academy (25-7, 25-12) and Austwell-Tivoli (25-23, 25-14). They closed the tournament with another win over Austwell-Tivoli (25-23, 25-15) to finish the tournament 3-1.
The Trojanettes (4-1) will welcome Knippa to Charlotte for their home opener on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
McMullen struggles on second day of Freer Tournament
The McMullen Cowgirls started the Freer tournament well with wins against Natalia (25-8, 25-10) and Kingsville King (25-18, 24-26, 15-9) bookending a loss to Refugio (15-25, 15-25) on Friday.
The Cowgirls would then drop their three matches on Saturday to King (21-25, 25-18, 7-15), Santa Gertrudis Academy (8-25, 9-25) and Pearsall ( 18-25, 22-25).
McMullen (2-6) will host San Antonio Stacey this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for their home opener.
Poteet drops four matches at Harlandale Tournament
The Poteet Lady Aggies opened their 2019 campaign with four losses at the Harlandale Tournament over the weekend.
Poteet opened the tournament on Friday with losses to San Antonio Holmes (14-25, 13-25) and Fox Tech (16-25, 25-17, 19-25). On Saturday, they lost to Providence (21-25, 18-25) and Laredo Nixon (13-25, 25-21, 11-25).
Poteet (0-4) will host Marion this Tuesday for their home opener at 5:30 p.m.
