VIRGINIA MEYER


 

 

Virginia Klaus Meyer passed away on March 29, 2021, at her home in Pleasanton at the age of 78. She was born on March 17, 1943, in Lolita to Edward and Carmenetta Klaus. She lived most of her youth around the Victoria area and graduated from Industrial High School in Vanderbilt. She met and married her lifelong husband in 1963 when he came to LaWard to work in the natural gas gathering business after the devastating hurricane Carla disaster in the fall of 1961.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Edward H. and Carmenetta (Meador) Klaus.

She is survived by her husband Ernest Meyer, her daughter Sherry Kathleen (Meyer) Hanzalik her son Kevin Meyer and granddaughter Sarah Coleen Hanzalik, her sister Jeanette Yearwood; niece Diane (Yearwood) Laughter and husband Ray, and nephews Craig Yearwood and wife Chisa Packard Yearwood; Clint Yearwood and wife Teri Yearwood. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved friends.

Virginia suffered a lifechanging cancer surgery in 2011 after which much of her zest for life was curtailed. Prior to that time Virginia was active in her church and family activities and enjoyed arts and crafts, painting, and was an avid reader.

A visitation was Tuesday, April 6 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, with a funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment followed at Pleasanton City Cemetery.
