On Sunday, Dec. 15, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4853 gathered to honor those who have gone before us and to let them all know they are not forgotten.

VFW members and several community members gathered at the Jourdanton, Pleasanton and Christine Cemeteries to lay wreaths for all veterans. There were several stories told as they progressed through the day by family members and friends who served with them.

The day was beyond blessed, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of the community. Thank you to the City of Christine, the Jourdanton Garden Club and the Huddleston/Bell Family for the large donation of wreaths.

At last count, every veteran in Christine had a wreath, and we are 15 short of having the Jourdanton Cemetery complete. We are looking currently for the wreaths to finish this week. Next year, the focus will shift to collections to cover the Pleasanton City Cemetery. Also special thank you to the City of Christine and the Christine Volunteer Fire Department for the escort of the wreaths to the cemetery.
