Verna Mae (Haynes) Byrd of Pleasanton entered eternal rest with Jesus Christ on March 26, 2021, at the age of 82 years, 11 months, 29 days.
She was born in Berkeley, California on March 28, 1938, to Ernest Carlton and Sarah Marie Haynes. Verna always has had a passion for helping people, so her dream of nursing began. She was always a gracious, loving and supportive nurse who cared deeply for her patients.
Verna married Robert (Bob) Byrd, on November 7, 1959. This was a great start to her journey of serving Christ. During her time in Germany, she served faithfully her Savior, showing eternal gratefulness to those in need. She was happy to host many military personnel with love, food and support while away from home. There was never a crowd too small or big for her to show how delightful of a servant of the Lord she was.
Verna is survived by her loving husband, Bob Byrd, of 61 years, her son, Erik Alan Byrd, daughter, Karen L. Byrd, brother, Ernest Haynes and sister Betty Olmstead; along with various family and friends. Verna is preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on April 17, at 1 p.m.
