My entire 20s were spent in the 80s. What a glorious and innocent decade. It is comical that the fashions from that era are making a comeback. The 80s have been called “the time that fashion forgot.” The 80s were a decade when many of the fashion trends that people love to hate were created.
Acid-washed jeans, ginormous shoulder pads, bright neon geometric track suits, highwaisted jeans, big sprayed hair, mullets, velour, spandex, leg warmers, parachute pants, enormous jewelry, bold make-up and lots of all of it worn simultaneously.
Influences of the 80s were MTV, music videos, Dynasty, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, Madonna and movies such as Flash Dance and Valley Girl. But primarily, it was the music that influenced this generation.
The Ultimate 80s Throwback Party in the Park is bringing back the 80s with a free concert at the Pleasanton River Park, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. with hometown favorite 86’D and The Texas Tone Rangers which both feature musicians who graduated from Pleasanton High School will bring the best of 80s music. But these bands are the real deal with big rocker sounds and talent of your favorite 80s bands. This free event is for the whole family with food trucks, face painting, merchandise vendors, music, 80s costume contest and more.
The evening event includes a raffle for a wonderful cause benefitting the Larry Brown Scholarship Fund and educational experiences for PISD’s special needs students.
