UIL releases conference cutoff numbers for next realignment

While the biennial UIL realignment won’t be announced until February, the speculation about new districts began Dec. 6 with the release of the conference cutoff numbers.

The new figures will affect all Atascosa County schools, which will be playing some new district opponents beginning next year despite all remaining in the same conference.

Pleasanton is still firmly in Class 4A Division I (790-1,149) with an enrollment of 1,010, but the Eagles’ football district will have a shakeup.

Two current 15-4A DI foes—Robstown and Rockport-Fulton—will move down to 4A DII. Austin Eastside Memorial is the only other Region IV-4A DI school that will drop down a division.

Gonzales, a former district opponent for the Eagles, may pair with Pleasanton football again after turning in enrollment numbers to move up from 4A DII. The Apaches (793) are three students above the DI cutoff.

The Eagles’ district members for all other sports—Poteet, Beeville, Cuero and Somerset—will all remain in the same conference.

Lytle, a district foe for Poteet football in the current alignment, will drop to 3A DI in a move that could also affect Jourdanton. The Indians again will be in 3A DI, and none of its current football district opponents will change conferences.

Karnes City could also be in the mix for football as it moves up a division from 3A DII. The Badgers share a district with Jourdanton in all other sports in the current alignment.

For basketball and volleyball, the Indians will no longer face San Antonio Brooks and San Antonio Fox Tech, which are moving up to 4A and 5A, respectively.

Charlotte, which will stay in 2A DII for football, did not have any district opponents that will change classifications. For basketball and volleyball, district foe SA Gervin will move up to 3A.

McMullen County will remain in 1A with an enrollment of 70.
