UIL pushes back girl’s hoops state games

The Texas high school girl’s basketball state championships have been pushed back.

On Friday, Feb. 19, the University Interscholastic League announced it was pushing back the state championships for the girl’s basketball playoffs. The state championships will now be held on March 10-11 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The decision came after nearly all of the state was impacted by record winter weather last week.

In addition to the state championships, the playoff schedule was adapted to accommodate the makeup games throughout the state in the bidistrict and area rounds of the playoffs.

The playoff schedule is as follows:

• Regional Quarterfinals: Feb. 24-25

• Regional Semifinals: Feb. 26-27

• Regional Finals: March 1-2

• State Semifinals: March 5-6

• State Finals: March 10-11

Locally, the McMullen County Cowgirls had their area round game affected by the winter weather. They would’ve played their area round game with North Zulch on either Feb. 16 or 17 had it not been for the weather. Instead, the game was postponed to Saturday due to the inclement weather.

The boy’s playoff schedule was also adapted to accommodate makeup games, but the state championships will still take place on time on March 12-13 at the Alamodome.
