Mr. Tweet Palmer Brooks, born May 20, 1923, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2016 in Castroville at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 21 days.
Tweet was born and grew up in the Anchorage/Rossville area, and served in the Army during World War II. He spent 30 years in the water well drilling business after coming home from the war. Tweet loved to go out and hunt with his dogs in his younger days, and enjoyed fishing with his family and friends in his later years. He was a founding member of the Rossville Community Center.
Tweet was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar L. and Eva Pratt Brooks, two brothers, Lewis and Leslie Brooks, and four sisters, Jessie Mae and Dorothy Eva Brooks, Gladys Cowley, and Lydell Clayton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Roberta, three daughters, Lynn Rankin and husband Ronnie of Poteet, Dian Asbury and husband Larry of Port Lavaca, Brenda Tomblin and husband Tobey of Poteet, and one sister, Margaret Mitchell and husband Vernon of San Antonio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie Scharmann, Dale Rankin and wife Marla, Tanya Hathorn and husband Cody, Debra Nixon and husband Russell, Larry Wade Asbury and wife Erica, Crystal Weber and husband Shawn, T.P. Brooks Asbury and wife Tanya, Stacie Tomblin, Lena Evans and husband Jaime, Brittany Tomblin and Toby Tomblin, III, twelve great grandsons, seven great granddaughters, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation for Tweet will be on Sunday, November 13, from 2-8 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Services will graveside on Monday, November 14 at 3 p.m. at the Anchorage Cemetery near Poteet.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to VFW Post 6970, 9655 State HWY 16, Poteet.
