The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and Western Premium BBQ Products (W3) are again partnering up for another bigger-than-life barbeque cook-off March 13 and 14.
Chamber co-chairs Wade McBee and Chico Cox are hoping that the 200 teams will fill by the deadline of March 11 at 5 p.m.
Right now, there are about 100 teams competing under IBCA rules. Last year’s event saw 150 teams competing for the 100 percent pay-out. There is added money again, thanks to Western Premium BBQ Products – $8,000 so far. So, figuring on just the current numbers, $38,000 is the total payout.
There will be some other action for the noncompeting types, too. Judges are needed for the event. Those who wish to sample some of the best of the best in the state can register online at pleasantoncofc.com or contact the chamber at 830-569-2163 or show up at 10 a.m. at the main pavilion at the Pleasanton River Park Saturday, March 14. The minimum age to judge is 18 and there is no experience necessary.
It wouldn’t be any fun without some great entertainment so be sure to come out of Friday and hear the Pear Ratz at 6:30 p.m. followed by Pleasanton’s own Rodney Hayden. He will be opening for The Bellamy Brothers. Tickets are $15. Cook’s Choice competition will also be held Friday evening and possibly a margarita competition.
On Saturday, another local entertainer, Gabe Garcia will open for Aaron Watson.
Tickets are $20 at the door and the entertainment will begin after the awards.
This all will take place at the Pleasanton River Park near downtown Pleasanton just off of Adams Street.
A washer tourney will also be held on Saturday. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with the start time at noon. $20 per team. Register at the chamber office..
WESTERN Premium BBQ Products will provide Bonus Prize Money to each event. Founded in 1986, WESTERN Premium BBQ Products is produced and distributed by W.W. Wood, Inc., the leading producer of BBQ wood in the United States
