Thanks to 21 unanswered points in the first half and a potent rushing attack, the Charlotte Trojans cruised to a 21-12 homecoming win over Kaufer Riviera.
The Trojans posted a season-high mark on the ground with 292 rushing yards. Charlotte finished the game with 347 yards total.
Senior running back Manuel Cancel led the charge with 124 yards on 18 carries Friday night. He also caught two passes for 31 yards. His brother, Jeremiah, scored a pair of touchdowns on two carries for 66 yards.
Quarterback Alex Martinez had Charlotte’s third rushing touchdown, capping a day of seven carries for 26 yards on the ground. He finished 3-of-6 passing with one interception.
Xavier Martinez also caught a pair of passes for 24 yards.
Brandon Sanchez led the defensive effort with one tackle, three assists, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Cancel brothers combined for a total of 7 1/2 tackles in the win.
Charlotte (2-1) will travel to San Antonio to face St. Gerard (1-2) on Sept. 20. St. Gerard is coming off a loss to Brooks Academy.
