Trojans strangle Sabinal in nondistrict finaleFree Access

The Charlotte Trojans held the Sabinal Yellowjackets in check during a 41-14 rout at home on Friday.

Sabinal managed just 25 yards of total offense against the Trojans and rushed for -1 yard on 26 tries Friday night.

Heading up that lethal defense was Damien Cruz with 5 1/2 tackles and three tackles for a loss. Chris Gonzales also had 5 1/2 tackles with a sack.

Vicente Segundo and Manuel Cancel each picked up interceptions on defense for the Trojans.

All the while, Charlotte, behind 325 yards of total offense, rattled off 33 unanswered points to jump out to a 33-0 lead at halftime. Cancel picked up his three touchdowns of the game in that first half. He would finish with 137 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Brandon Sanchez also scored a rushing touchdown on a 4-yard carry in the first quarter. It was his only carry of the game.

QB Alex Martinez was 10-of-12 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown, a 10-yard pass to Max Rowland in the fourth quarter. Rowland finished the day with four catches for 30 yards to go with the touchdown.

Charlotte (4-1) will be off next week before welcoming D’Hanis (3-2) to Trojan Field to open District 15-2A DII play.
