The Charlotte football team picked up a win in its season opener after holding off San Marcos Academy on Friday.
The Bears scored a touchdown with 2:14 remaining, but Charlotte hung on for a 27-24 victory at Trojan Field.
Cameron Orduna and Jevon Santos each had two touchdowns to lead the Trojans.
SMA led 7-0 after the first quarter before a pair of Orduna rushing scores. His second touchdown gave Charlotte a 13-7 lead with 6:11 to go before halftime.
The Bears responded to take a 14-13 lead into the locker room.
The Trojans took the lead for good on Santos’ 1-yard touchdown run with 7:58 to go in the third quarter.
Santos led the team with 70 rushing yards on 10 carries. The junior quarterback also went 4-for-11 with 90 yards through the air.
Four Charlotte players had at least 33 rushing yards. Senior Matt Love finished with 60 yards on five attempts.
Orduna had 38 rushing yards, and Matt Garcia finished with 33.
Mark Gaitan, who also had 17 yards on the ground, led the Trojans with 71 receiving yards on three catches. Orduna had one reception.
The Charlotte defense allowed 225 total yards to the Bears.
The Trojans had three sacks on the night and six tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
The Charlotte defense also had an interception.
The Trojans will take on Agua Dulce on Friday in the team’s first road game of the season.
The Longhorns (0-1) lost to another District 15-2A Division II team in Pettus on Friday.
The Eagles edged Agua Dulce 16-14 in their season opener.
