Trojanettes take third at district

The Charlotte track teams had quite a few athletes make it to area at the District 31-2A meet in Falls City on Wednesday, April 7.

The Trojans and Trojanettes will send a total of 14 athletes to the area meet, which will be in Harper on Wednesday, April 14.

Nine girls will represent the Trojanettes, including the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter relay teams. Those nine representatives included four individual athletes competing on their own. The Trojans are sending four boys including the 400- and 1600-meter relay teams. Two Trojans will compete in individual events.

“I feel excited and nervous at the same time. It shows that I put in a lot of hard work, effort and time in order for me to go in many events,” said junior Mia Campos.

Campos will be one of four girls to compete in individual events. Campos placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.41 seconds and second in the long jump with a jump of 15-feet-2.25-inches. Not only did she advance in individual events, she helped her team place second in the 400- and 800-meter relays.

“I hope to do well in the competition and be a good example of a Charlotte athlete,” said Campos.

The Trojans will have Mario Campos and Andru Castillo compete in individual events.

Andru Castillo advanced in two individual events. He placed third in long jump with a jump of 18-4.5 and advanced with a third place finish in the 200 with a time of 24.16. Not only did he secure a spot at area individually, he helped his team place fourth and advance in the 400 and 1600 relays.

Mario Campos advanced in the 400-meter run, placing third with a time of 55.90. Campos also helped his team secure a spot at area in the 400-meter and 1600-meter relays.

The Charlotte Trojanettes finished third as a team with a total of 77 points. The Trojanettes team had a great day with their relay teams. The 400-meter relay team (Jessalyn Sanchez, Mia Campos, Ariel Ramon, Mariah Boyd) got second with a time of 53.53. The 800-meter relay team (Jenna Dillard, Jessalyn Sanchez, Mia Campos, Ariella Cumpian) placed third with a time of 2:02.08 and the mile relay team (Jessalyn Sanchez, Stephanie Ramos, Marilyn Brister and Ariella Cumpian) placed third with a time of 5:13.07.

“It feels great to be able to help all relays to advance to area especially for my senior year,” said Sanchez.
