The Charlotte girls basketball team picked up a win in its district opener.
The Trojanettes held off Sabinal 37-31 at home Dec. 19 to start District 29-2A competition 1-0.
“I am very proud of the team and how each athlete contributed to the win,” Charlotte coach Marilie Duran said. “The game plan was executed well, and the level of intensity was maintained throughout the game. Every single athlete on the team has been working hard from day one of practice, and it is paying off.”
Naomi Garcia led the way for the Trojanettes with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Julissa Cantu and Katherine Groff each scored eight points for Charlotte.
Mercy Sanchez had four points and five rebounds, while Jasmin Santos chipped in two points and six boards.
Amber Gonzales added two points and four rebounds.
The Trojanettes return to action at 2 p.m. Friday on the road at Brackettville.
