Several local volunteer fire departments responded to a Rossville fire in the River Oaks area, in the early morning hours on Jan. 19.
According to Rossville Volunteer Fire Department President David Reyes, Richard Cantu was taken to South Texas Regional Medical Center for burns on his shoulder and arms. Cantu’s single-wide mobile home was a total loss.
The fire occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m., said Reyes. The Rossville, Poteet, Pleasanton, Jourdanton and Lytle Volunteer Fire Departments battled the fire. Neighbors believe the fire was a result of a lightning strike, but Reyes said the cause is undetermined.
Fortunately, Cantu has received some assistance from the Red Cross and possibly the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Volunteers are sought to help clear out the land.
