Tourney Roundup: Trojanettes win Nordheim tourney againFree Access

For the second straight year, the Charlotte Trojanettes claimed championship hardware at the Nordheim tournament.

The Trojanettes did so by going undefeated and improving their record to 9-1 entering play on Tuesday.

The Trojanettes cruised through pool play, beating Prairie Lea 2-0 (15-13, 15-6) and Great Temple Christian 2-0 (15-5, 17-15).

They then swept Prairie Lea (25-20, 25-13) in bracket play to advance to the championship.

The Trojanettes knocked off hosts Nordheim to claim the tournament championship.

Mia Campos was named tournament MVP. Julissa Cantu and Jessalyn Sanchez were named to the All-Tournament team.


The Pleasanton Lady Eagles struggled at the Devine tournament, going 2-4 over the course of two days.

Pleasanton picked up a 2-0 win over Center Point (25-17, 26-24) to open the tournament on Thursday before beating Jourdanton 2-1 (25-22, 19-25, 26-24) to open play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles fell to Holy Cross (9-25, 20-25) and Crystal City (24-26, 16-25) on the opening day. Losses to Marion (22-25, 23-25) and Devine (21-25, 15-25) closed out the tournament for Pleasanton.


The Jourdanton Squaws also found stiff competition at the Devine tournament.

The Squaws dropped all three matches on Friday to San Antonio FEAST (25-23, 11-25, 23-25), Geronimo Navarro (24-26, 8-25) and Corpus Christi King (15-25, 19-25).

On Saturday, the Squaws fell to Pleasanton in three sets (22-25, 25-19, 24-26).

Following the loss to Pleasanton, the Squaws picked up a pair of wins over Llano (26-24, 25-21) and Fox Tech (25-19, 25-14) to close out the tournament.   

McMullen County

The McMullen County Cowgirls rallied from back-to-back losses to claim the consolation championship at Three Rivers’ Doris Johanson Classic.

The Cowgirls opened the tournament on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Cotulla (25-14, 25-14) before dropping their next pool play match to Nixon-Smiley 2-0 (24-26, 14-25). They ended Thursday in the championship bracket, where they fell to San Diego in straight sets (18-25, 22-25).

On Saturday, the Cowgirls rattled off back-to-back wins over Lytle (21-25, 25-8, 25-12) and Kenedy (25-16, 25-8) to claim the consolation championship.


The Poteet Lady Aggies opened the Doris Johanson Classic with back-to-back losses on Thursday.

The Lady Aggies fell in straight sets to Brooks Academy (16-25, 23-25) and Lytle (19-25, 21-25).

The losses put the Lady Aggies in the consolation round robin.

In the round robin, Poteet won two of their three matches. Sandwiched around a loss to Cotulla (18-25, 25-17, 23-25), the Lady Aggies downed host Three Rivers (22-25, 25-18, 25-21) and Natalia (25-19, 25-20).
