Tomas “Blackie” Martinez, Jr., age 78, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Tomas was born on June 16, 1942, in Liveoak County to Tomas Martinez Sr. and Castula DeHoyos.
Blackie is survived by his wife of 59 years Frances Martinez, his daughter Joann Flores and wife Brenda, son Michael Martinez and wife Linda, daughter Norma Reyna and husband John, son Eddie Martinez, daughter Sandra Martinez, son Billy Martinez and wife Norma, daughter Pat Martinez, and son Jason Martinez and wife Janie.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 33 greatgrandchildren.
He also has many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins who love him dearly and greatly miss him.
Blackie is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and one grandson.
Blackie was a hardworking man who loved his children, brothers and sisters. His line of work was construction. He taught three of his boys how to run machinery. The fourth boy, he told him do what you need to do. He taught the girls how to be strong and do for themselves. He had a lot of friends because, in his eyes, there was not one person who could do wrong.
He loved to sing, loved listening to music and he was a great dancer! You are gone, but never forgotten.
A visitation for Blackie will be on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Hurley Funeral Home from 2 – 7 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7p.m. A Mass will be held on Friday, June 11, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, starting at 10 a.m. followed by interment at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery #2.
