St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton will hold its annual picnic this Sunday, September 27. The pastor and the parishioners of St. Matthew’s invite you to begin the celebration with us by joining us for Sunday Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Festivities continue with a hearty barbecue beef and sausage meal being served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Cost is $8.00 per plate. Besides ample portions of the beef and sausage, the meal is served with pinto beans, potato salad, cole slaw, dessert, and tea. Before getting your meal, though, you better make your way to the always popular kolache booth for homemade kolaches. We sell out quickly! Besides kolaches, you can find some other great homemade baked goods there.

Prize bingo games will be played in the afternoon beginning at 12:30 at the covered pavilion adjacent to the hall until about 4:30. If you’re looking to buy some quality items for yourself or get a jumpstart on your Christmas shopping, you can enjoy the action of a best bid auction inside the air-conditioned hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. Another place to find some “treasures” is our thrift store/country store which will be opened throughout the day.

To keep the kids entertained, we have some great games for younger kids from Jumping for Joy Inflatables™, including a Yellow Toddler Fun Center and a Pirate Ship. Additionally, there will be pumpkin painting and “Cowboy Gus” (aka Mr. Donald Blythe) will entertain kids with magic, card tricks, juggling, and balloon artistry.

“Kid food” favorites like popcorn, pickles and snow cones will be available to “re-fuel” kids for more fun and games throughout the afternoon!

For the older kids, Parties, Picnics and Promotions is supplying three news games called G-Force, Gyro, and Trampoline Thing. Additionally, Jumping For Joy Inflatables™ is providing a Bungee Run, Extreme Rush, and a Dunk Tank. Rumor has it that there may be some real “dunkable” dunkees: teachers, coaches, JHS athletes, and local business people. Even Mayor Susan Netardus, as well as Chief of Police Eric Kaiser and Officer Tina Patchen are rumored to have volunteered!

Topping off the day will be the super prize raffle. Twenty-six prizes worth a combined total of over $10,700 will be given away! Top six prizes are a $3,000 VISA gift card, a “Circle of Support” diamond necklace, a 40” Samsung Smart HD TV with Blu-Ray player, a Dooney & Burke ostrich skin purse, a Kitchen Aide 5-qt. stand mixer, and a Yeti Hopper with Yeti accessories.

Skip the Sunday cooking, and come on over to St. Matthew’s for great food, fun, and fellowship!!
