Time to bid

The 60th Atascosa Livestock Show is underway. Now is the time to contact the volunteers to offer funds to help purchase these projects our area youth have worked on for the past few months. See the article to contact those who will help you spend your money!

Also, watch for our followup section on February 5. It will feature the winners and lots of photos.

Deer Contest reminder

Buck season ends on January 19, so if you are interested in entering our contest, be sure and send those photos and stats in. We will accept entries up to February 10. We will also accept photos for any deer or hog killed up until that time.

Winners will be announced at the Pleasanton Lions Club Wild Game Dinner on March 1 – which is already sold out for this year. Winners receive two complimentary tickets provided by the Lions Club and Pleasanton Express as well as numerous prizes from our area merchants.

RIP Ralph

A Main Street mainstay for many years, Ralph Goddard, passed away on Monday. Ralph was one of those men who was always very honest and frank when talking to just about anyone.

His businesses in Pleasanton – Ben Franklin and Frames-n-Things were on Main Street and many times the gathering place for good friends and coffee. He once told me he ate a peanut butter sandwich everyday for lunch. I asked if it was because it was easy. He said, “No, it’s because I love peanut butter sandwiches!”

I have missed seeing him drive around town since his retirement and had only recently heard that he had been ill.

Rest in peace, Ralph.
