Pleasanton’s women’s soccer team sealed its third straight district title by beating La Vernia 5-0 on the road on March 8.

“We were favored to win the district, so it wasn’t a surprise,” Pleasanton head coach Brant Bird said.

The Eagles (16-6-3, 5-0 District 4A-29) led 2-0 at halftime before cruising to its eighth straight win despite Madelyn Bird, Delanee Olivarri and Jenna Westfall missing the game due to the Business Professionals of America state convention. Sofia Rivera tallied three goals. Carly Esquivel and Zoei Diaz also scored goals.

“We were missing Maddy, Delanee and Jenna and we played a few JV girls. The way the team responded, they didn’t miss a beat,” coach Bird said of the team’s third district shutout and eighth overall this season.

Pleasanton has outscored its district opponents 28-2.

The Eagles are resting this week and will play its last regular-season game on March 19 at 7 p.m. against Gonzales, which they beat 6-1 on March 1.

The Eagles are assured to play King in bi-district on March 29.
