On December 27, our family grew by one with the marriage of my daughter Allison and new son-in-law Taylor. Well, at least officially. He became a part of our family almost immediately when it was apparent that “he” was the one for “her” a couple of years ago.
For 12 months we got to plan their wedding. The eclectic theme was so them. The groom had just as much input as the bride. Planning sessions, shopping sessions, decisions, pre-nuptial events, friends who helped and kept me sane were all so much fun and appreciated.
As close family and friends gathered to celebrate the union of these two, hearing their dedications to each other was such a personal touch.
As expected, marrying off a child – especially your daughter – ranks very high on the emotional scale. I swear, looking up there you can’t help to see a 5-yearold little girl playing dressup.
And the hankie Ali gave me at the rehearsal dinner was well put to use, too. Tears of joy, hope and love were shed several times over the course of the days leading up and afterwards. Sharing this experience with loved ones -and seeing how several sets of families and friends were all interacting because two people fell in love was simply one of the best experiences in my whole life.
Most likely every parent has said that their child’s wedding was the sweetest, most beautiful memory ever – and now I know why.
The way I see it, while this wedding was one of my best days, I truly believe that this marriage will be even better. Much love to you both, Allison and Taylor – Mr. and Mrs. Perk.
