Can you spare a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea every day? If you can, that is below what it will cost to residents if the Pleasanton ISD bond election passes next month. Yes, based on a home that is worth $100,000 (homestead) it will cost about $23 more monthly. When the idea of building a new training facility near the football stadium was being discussed, I heard many people wondering why the school would spend the money on such an antiquated location. Sure it needed to be done as well as upgrading the concession stands and restrooms, but it was much like putting a Band-Aid® on a large gash. It was not going to fix it.
Then our community started to change. Developers are interested in locating here and building homes. The oil industry and those that it supports are bringing in people as well. While there are a lot of transient workers who may not move their families here, there will be many more moving in….in just a few years.
They will come, and if we can build a new high school now and be prepared for the growth, doesn’t it make sense?
Also, a new stadium would enhance the area, plus giving the Jr. High their own facilities to hold events.
The way I see it, my children are graduated and gone from our public school system. They won’t benefit from this at all. But that doesn’t alter how I feel about having a school district that would be a modern environment that would promote learning and training for our youth.
The better tools provided to our students will allow them to excel at college, the military, trade school or on the job.
