The Way I See It

Branding is appropriate name

The City of Pleasanton may be in the marketing business. Why? Well, why not?

To capture what is happening right now in our neck of the woods – specifically our presence to many oil field companies, we need to keep what is ours – our identity.

I totally agree with what Mayor Clint Powell said at the workshop held a couple of weeks ago.

He said that our cowboy heritage is something to be kept.

So, isn’t it appropriate that both types of branding (marketing and the type used to claim ownership of animals) are sure to leave a lasting mark.

Pleasanton has been the “Birthplace of the Cowboy” way longer than “oh, yeah, Pleasanton? That’s where the Eagle Ford Shale activity is, right?”

Our civic leaders thought about our moniker back in the 60s and set the tone for the future. They created an event to be celebrated each year where cowboys could be honored.

Where it can surely be improved, I, too, agree that it should not be changed.

Briscoe Hall has helped the hill country cities of Kerrville and Fredericksburg to claim their identities as places people place on their list to visit.

Why not Pleasanton?

The plans for revitalizing the downtown area are already on the way with the Downtown Merchants Association. When the Community Center/Public Library opens there will be even more activity going on. The way I see it, our town has much to offer, let’s claim it now! And, excuse the pun, strike while the iron is hot!
