The Way I See It

Each time I go to our various press association conventions I come back feeling energized.

Reconnecting with colleagues and gathering information always gives me a shot in the arm.

The seminars are informative and I can always take something that can be shared here.

Even the board meetings are filled with information or an inside track to help us in our industry.

This last Texas Press Association convention was very special as well.

Three people that are well known around our newspaper family were inducted into the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame.

Though most didn’t know one of the inductees personally, we sure knew his grandson and his family. Sam Fore (former owner and publisher of the Floresville Chronicle) is the grandfather of Sam Fore Keach – a retired newspaperman (Nueces County Record Star) in South Texas. Mary Judson, co-owner and co-publisher of the Port Aransas South Jetty, was also honored. Judson was the first female president of Texas Press Association and is still a cornerstone to South Texas Press Association and Texas Gulf Coast Press Association. Her ability to write humorous and entertaining minutes to STPA meetings is also uncanny.

Willis Webb, another retired editor/publisher and featured columnist in our paper, was also honored. Webb has also battled (and beat) cancer this past year. He was thrown into the national spot light while he was at the Jasper Newsboy reporting on the horrible death of James Byrd, Jr. in 1998.

The way I see it, we can only hope to one day be recognized like these fine individuals. They are truly an inspiration to me and many others in our business.

That’s the way I see it, let me know your view – email me at, or write at P.O. Drawer 880, Pleasanton, Tx 78064.
