The Way I See It

Granddogs?... I’ll take ‘em

Vacationing with family can be trying. Traveling with young ones with the never-ending question of “Are we almost there?” can be frustrating. Arguing over which movie to watch or timing stops that fit everyone’s “schedule” can all be annoying.

But, let me assure you, it does get better.

Traveling and vacationing with your adult children is a breeze. They are helpful in unloading and loading up luggage, chairs, food and coolers.

They are also pretty agreeable to do just about anything that they group wants to do. I’ll admit that I am extremely lucky in having some low-key kids with just as low-key significant others.

Even adding their respectivedogs proved to be a great time. (Well, except for a tummy that was quite disagreeable one evening.) Yes, I’m the goofy grandmother of granddogs. Falcor is my oldest. He is a sweet cocker mix that was rescued from Austin and adopted by Allison and her fiancé Taylor. Dany (short for Daenerys Targaryen – Game of Thrones) is a cute terrier mix that happened upon Daryl and Emily’s apartment. Since they couldn’t have a dog at the time, she has been my roomie along with her uncle, Domingo. He is the old man of the group and very cantankerous. He did not make the trip, sad to say. Ok. Right. We are THAT creepy family. We assign familial traits and voices for these cute little beings that add so much to our lives.

While the pups didn’t dig the beach that much – well they DUG the beach, but didn’t care for the surf – they were really good pets and traveled well.

Before our trip I had received tips on how to travel with pets and what to watch out for in heat and different situations.

It pretty much is akin to babies. They can’t stay out for an extended amount of time. They can’t tell you that they are hot, thirsty, etc. You really have to use common sense.

The way I see it, since it had been awhile since I’d vacationed with the animal type family or babies, it brought back a few of those memories. I’m glad to say that my kids did well handling my granddogs. Me? I did my part in spoiling them.
