The Good Health Store has been a local business on a mission to better the health of Atascosa County residents, naturally, for almost 23 years. First opening in 1998 by Jeff and Karen Phillips, The Good Health Store has provided the community with quality vitamin and supplement options to treat a variety of nutritional deficiencies.

Susan Phillips is the current owner and operator of The Good Health Store. She has been an Atascosa County resident since she was 2 years old. Phillips is a registered nurse, and she uses her medical expertise to guide customers in the purchasing of supplements or vitamin products that will help satisfy their health and nutrition needs.

Phillips is the daughter of Dr. Gerald Phillips, M.D., who has been a family practice doctor for 55 years. He built, owned, and worked out of the building that The Good Health Store currently operates in. Dr. Phillips studied nutrition about 45 years ago, which was the basis and foundation of The Good Health Store mission.

Dr. Phillips’ expertise in nutrition inspired his children to open The Good Health Store to provide the community with good, solid, quality vitamin options.

The Good Health Store carries products such as vitamins, minerals, homeopathic, essential oils, CBD and local Rakowitz Honey which can help treat allergies, naturally. CBD is one of their newest additions, and it has really taken off because of the product’s versatility.

Phillips said, “It will treat everything from pain, to anxiety, to sleeplessness, muscle spasms, leg cramps, hot flashes, everything. People use it for all kinds of things.”

Everything in the store is GMP Certified, which stands for “good manufacturing practices.” Owner Susan Phillips pointed out, “It is very important to be GMP Certified. One reason is because it shows that you are getting actual nutrition in your vitamin.”

The Natural Products Association also endorses most of the products in the store. The NPA examines manufacturing plants for products like dietary supplements, natural health, sports nutrition, etc.

The Good Health Store makes monetary donations throughout the year to organizations across the community. Phillips highlighted, “I try to support any community activities that come up in any ways that I can.”

Susan Phillips, along with The Good Health Store, is a big supporter of other local businesses. Phillips said, “If I support local business, then they support me. That’s the only way to keep our little businesses going in this town.”
