Has acting in a play changed you as a person?

Yes, it has. I was originally a painfully shy person, but acting has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and put myself in front of an audience. Acting in a play has allowed me to meet new people within the cast and to have confidence in them and myself, whether I am a character set to make people laugh, or a more serious character. It has also helped me to open my mind to other people’s situations, as part of acting is to become the character who may not have the same lifestyle as you.

If you had to encourage a friend to try acting, what would you tell them?

Acting can be scary, even with just a couple of lines. It takes a lot to put yourself on a stage and perform in front of people, which brings you to become somewhat vulnerable to the audience. However, when you step on stage as an actor, you are not yourself, but you are a character taken from within a script’s pages and brought to life. Within the character, you can make the audience feel what your character is feeling or make them react to something you say or do, and that’s honestly quite fun.

Would you like to act professionally?

As much fun as that would be, I also don’t think it’s my best place. Though I am an actor, I am also in love with helping the actors bring their characters to life backstage in any shape or form, so I think I would enjoy being a professional stage technician more.

My high school teacher Ms.Rodriquez, is the person that I give credit to my interest in acting. Back when I was in high school I had absolutely no interest in acting but I was forced to take an art course so i was placed in her theatre arts class. While I was in there I recall performing a monologue, and it all started from there. From that point on I spent years in that class and acted in four plays and stage managed three, all because she saw a talent in me that even I didn’t know I had.
