Texas Peanut Producers Board announces biennial elections


 

 

The Texas Peanut Producers Board will hold an election for two expiring directors’ seats. The election will be held from Jan. 9-23, 2020, with the nomination process open Nov. 23 through Dec. 23.

There is one seat open for election in Voting Region Three, which consists of Anderson, Angelina, Bandera, Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Bosque, Bowie, Brazos, Brown, Burleson, Burnet, Caldwell, Callahan, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Clay, Coke, Coleman, Collin, Comal, Comanche, Concho, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Eastland, Edwards, Ellis, Erath, Falls, Fannin, Franklin, Freestone, Gillespie, Grayson, Gregg, Grimes, Hamilton, Harrison, Hays, Henderson, Hill, Hood, Hopkins, Houston, Howard, Hunt, Irion, Jack, Johnson, Kaufman, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Lamar, Lampasas, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Llano, Madison, Marion, Mason, McCulloch, McLennan, Menard, Milam, Mills, Mitchell, Montague, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Nolan, Palo Pinto, Panola, Parker, Rains, Real, Red River, Robertson, Rockwall, Runnels, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Saba, Schleicher, Shelby, Smith, Somervell, Sterling, Sutton, Tarrant, Taylor, Titus, Tom Green, Travis, Trinity, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker, Williamson, Wise and Wood counties.

There is also one seat open for election of an At Large member. The At Large board member may be from any of the 254 counties in Texas.

Nomination applicants must have their application signed by the applicant and 10 other eligible voters. Nomination forms will be publicly available Nov. 23, 2019, at peanut buying point locations and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices, or can be requested by mail directly from TPPB at 5223 79th St, Lubbock, Texas 79424. If you request a nomination form by mail, please include your county of residence. A form must be filed with TPPB no later than Dec. 23, 2019, in order for it to be valid.

Peanut producers eligible to serve on the board or vote in the elections are persons, including the owner of a farm on which peanuts are produced or the owner’s tenant or sharecropper, engaged in the business of producing peanuts or causing peanuts to be produced for commercial purposes for at least one production period during the three years preceding the date of this election (Jan. 23, 2019). For a producer to serve on or vote for a Voting Region 3 seat, the producer must reside within the counties stated above. Any qualified producer may serve or vote for an At Large nominee regardless of residence.
