The Way I See It

Area schools have been/will be performing their Winter/Christmas concerts this month. I had the pleasure to hear the Pleasanton High School Jazz Band once again. I missed out on the full band’s concert last week, so I am glad I made it to the jazz one.

Some of the these kids I’ve known since they were babies (Robert Rutherford and Gavin Garcia). It is nice to see how they and their classmates have grown into talented young musicians.

Their line-up included all of my favorite Christmas songs and carols – including “Away in a Manger” and a Big Band medley. They had played earlier on Monday at the Atascosa/McMullen Retired Teachers Association’s luncheon. Mr. Edward Solis, the PHS band director, chose the music well and acted as emcee for the evening.

While the crowd could have been larger, there were enough to applaud and enjoy the holiday music. They will also be playing this Friday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at the San Antonio International Airport.

The Pleasanton Junior High will perform next Thursday, Dec. 20 during their lunch times – 11:10 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. in the PJHS cafeteria.

Jourdanton Junior High is having theirs this Thursday, Dec. 13 at the JHS gym and the Jourdanton High School band will perform on Monday, Dec. 17. Both will be at 6:30 p.m. Charlotte’s concert will also be on Monday, Dec. 17 at 6:15 p.m.

The way I see it, students all over our county practice and perform – try to get out and support these performances when you can. You will get into the Christmas spirit and certainly won’t regret it!
