Our beloved mother and Nona, Susan Qualls Monsalvo, peacefully went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on December 26, 2016.

Susan was born at the family farm in Atascosa County, Texas on July 29, 1946 to Lucille Schuessler and Dan Qualls.  She graduated from Poteet High School in 1964, the same year she was the Poteet Strawberry Queen.  She met the love of her life, Rudy Taylor Monsalvo, while working in the Bexar County Courthouse.  On July 3, 1969 they married and so began their life adventure together.  Susan was a devoted wife and mother, to her two daughters Susan and Sherie, filling their house with love, joy, laughter, and happiness.  She loved celebrating life with her friends and family, always planning parties and making life special for those around her. While her children were growing up she was a homemaker, interior decorator, and volunteered in the community.

Susan was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  She loved Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and that love shone through to everyone she knew by the love she had for them.  She served as the President of the San Antonio Bar Auxiliary and was a founding member of the San Antonio Gardenia and Musical Club.  She also served as the chairperson for the March of Dimes.  Susan was a Canary Islander and member of the Women’s Club.  When her children graduated from high school she opened her business, Express Bail Bonds, becoming one of the first women bail bond owners in Bexar County.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Susan Taylor and Sherie Ann, and their husbands, Brian Smith and John Dickson.  She was most proud of her grandchildren, Robert William Gleeson, Daniel Scott Gleeson, Katherine Scott Dickson, John Park Smith III, John Taylor Monsalvo Dickson, Godson Frank Spencer Stubbs IV and Fred Gleeson.  Susan is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Bruce, brother Gene Qualls and his wife Margie, sister Dorothy Lary, and sister-in-law Gretchen Qualls.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Rudy Taylor Monsalvo, her parents Lucille and Dan Qualls, Lillie Taylor and Dr. R. O. Monsalvo, brother Danny Qualls, and brother-in-law Clyde Bruce.
