The mission of the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department is to develop, operate and maintain a parks and recreation system that enriches the quality of life for the present and future generations in a safe and secure environment.
The City of Pleasanton recently issued its Parks and Recreation Summer 2018 Events brochure, highlighting the Park Master Plan, Recreational Leagues, 12 Week Summer Program, pool hours and more. You can pick up a copy at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
Park Master Plan
In early April, the Pleasanton City Council approved directing city staff to issue requests for proposals (RFPs) for the design and construction of the Pleasanton River Park splash pad and skate park.
Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Director Greg Leach explained the RFPs are due on May 23.
“We will then interview potential vendors and make a selection. The vendor is required to begin no later than 30 days after council approval. Regarding the other projects, the drainage project will begin in late May/early June. We have a scheduled date of June 8 for the official groundbreaking, which is the opening week of our park programming.”
During his City Manager’s Message, Johnny Huizar said they are awaiting the drainage boxes, which should be here soon after Memorial Day.
Along with the skate park and splash pad, the park renovation plan includes picnic shelter, playground, restrooms, pavilions, concrete trails, overflow parking for events, an amphitheater, terraced overlook, granite trails and plaza. The plan also includes a baseball field, soccer field/open play, football field, basketball court, sand volleyball court, pedestrian bridge and workout stations.
You can commemorate your loved one with a memorial bench, picnic table or other park amenity. Each amenity has space for a plaque to recognize an organization, donor or loved one.
The city is also partnering with the Pleasanton VFW to remember veterans with the Veterans Memorial Light Trail.
Naming rights are also available for large park amenities such as the Splash Pad, Skate Park, Large Central Pavilion and Limestone Fishing Overlook.
Purchase a brick
Be a permanent part of the park by purchasing an engraved brick. Personalized, engraved bricks will be permanently set and displayed in the paths surrounding the playground and splash pad.
Brick prices are $40 for a 4” x 8” brick and $60 for an 8” x 8” brick. Please return form and check to: Pleasanton Parks Foundation- City of Pleasanton, ATTN: Greg Leach, PO Box 209, Pleasanton, TX 78064.
