The Jourdanton and Pleasanton Police Departments were both contacted to assist in stopping two vehicles racing down Hwy. 97 yesterday morning around 7:30 a.m.
A Jourdanton officer observed two cars racing down the highway at a high rate of speed. “Our officer was at the Gym parking lot helping a person unlock their car,” Jourdanton Police Chief Eric Kaiser said.
“They passed The Gym going side-by-side and went in and out traffic all the way to the HEB in Pleasanton. Our officer caught up to them and called for assistance from Pleasanton PD.”
Pleasanton officers stopped the racers near H.E.B. still sitting side by side on the highway.
Officers located a video camera used to record the race after contact was made.
“We obtained a search warrant to see if he was recording himself in that particular race,” Kaiser said.
Jourdanton officers charged Marcus Comeaux, of Floresville, along with Jandrew Spence, of Jourdanton, with Racing on Highway, a Class B Misdemeanor.
“The Pleasanton PD has encountered him before,” Kaiser said about Marcus Comeaux. “He was confrontational during the incident.”
Both vehicles were impounded and both suspects were remanded to the custody of the Atascosa County Jail. The offense is punishable by a jail sentence of up to six months and/or a fine up to $2,000.
