The Poteet Rotary Club, Poteet Strawberry Festival Association and the TRiCiTy Road Warriors hosted the first ever Strawberry Festival 5K and 1 Mile Berry Run/Walk, on Saturday, April 3. We had approximately 150 registrants of which 100 attended. Seeing this unfold right before our eyes was so magical and a dream come true for me.

We had the Color Guard from Poteet and Pleasanton High School JROTC Cadets post the Colors. The Commander is Cadet First Lieutenant Jeannie Gomez- Hilburn who carried the US Flag. The guard for the US Flag is Cadet Command Sergeant Major Simon Karsky. The Texas Flag was carried by Cadet Captain Victoria Chavez and the guard for the Texas Flag was Cadet SGT Ashley Steed.

These amazingly awesome JROTC Cadets did an outstanding job. Fifteen JROTC Cadets participated in the Strawberry 5K. Following the Posting of Colors, Pastor Willie Haak from the First Baptist Church in Poteet gave the invocation. Finally it was time to get the show on the road. We started off with the 1 Mile Berry Walk. The youngest and first place walker was 4-year-old Alexander Mosley of San Antonio.

The entire Herrera family participated in the event.
