Stephen “Steve” Joseph Harms passed away on May 15, 2018 at the age of 66 at his residence in San Antonio, Texas. Stephen was born September 6, 1951 to Edward and Mary (Roer) Harms in Lamar, Colorado. He was raised in Colorado and was the eldest of nine children.
After graduating high school, Stephen attended the Colorado School of Mines receiving a Bachelors Degree and later received his MBA from the University of Arizona.
He spent his career as a Metallurgical Engineer working with mining companies throughout the United States, Argentina and Bolivia. He also owned a cattle ranch in Missouri and later settled in San Antonio, Texas. Stephen was an advocate for education, not only for his younger siblings but for his two sons as well. He encouraged all to pursue higher education and was the president and principal of a Charter School in New York for a short time. Stephen was an active member of the Del Webb Hill Country Retreat community and enjoyed dancing, playing pickleball, dabbling in the stock market and traveling. He is a Veteran of the United States Army Corp of Engineers and the Army Reserve.
Steve will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stephen is survived by his sons; Stephen and Daniel Harms; sisters, Terry Struck, Patty Hudson and Francis Burchler; brothers, Greg, George, Phil, Dan and David Harms. He is also survived by his fiancée, Laura Weems as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Harms.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at the Del Webb Hill Country Retreat Club House, 4550 Del Webb Boulevard, San Antonio, Texas 78253.
