St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton will hold its annual picnic this Sunday, September 29. Fr. Kazimierz Oleksy and the parishioners of St. Matthew’s invite you to begin the celebration with us by joining us for Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Festivities continue with a hearty barbecue beef and sausage meal being served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Cost is $8.00 per plate. Besides ample portions of the beef and sausage, the meal is served with pinto beans, potato salad, cole slaw, dessert, and tea. Before getting your meal, though, you better make your way to the always popular kolache booth for homemade kolaches. We sell out quickly! Besides kolaches, you can find some other great homemade baked goods there.

Prize bingo games will be played in the afternoon beginning at 12:30 at the covered pavilion adjacent to the hall until about 4:30. If you’re looking to buy some quality items for yourself or get a jump-start on your Christmas shopping, you can enjoy the action of a best bid auction inside the airconditioned hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. Another place to find some “treasures” is our thrift store/country store which will be opened throughout the day.

To keep the kids entertained, we have increased the number and quality of games available to provide fun for kids ranging from infants to teenagers. Inflatable Wonderland ™ is providing some great new games such as two inflatable obstacle courses, two bounce houses, a combo bounce house and slide, and a basketball hoop game. Games2U Entertainment™ is providing Laser Tag, a video gaming theater, and a rock wall to climb. Additionally, there will games such as Go Fish and Duck Pond. To add even more fun for kids of all ages, there will be face painting, a pumpkin paint, and a nails and hair extensions booth. “Kid” food favorites like hot dogs with chips and a drink and snow cones will be available to “re-fuel” kids for more fun and games throughout the afternoon!

Topping off the day will be the super prize raffle. Forty-five prizes worth a combined total of over $14,000 will be given away! Top five prizes are a $2,500 VISA gift card, a “Circle of Charity” diamond necklace, a 46”1080P Samsung LCD TV with a Samsung Blu-Ray player and full motion wall mount, a 270 Remington BDL rifle, and a Kitchen Aid stainless steel 5-burner gas grill.

Skip the Sunday cooking, and come on over to St. Matthew’s for great food, fun, and fellowship!
