This weekend marks the first weekend of fall- the perfect time to join the celebration at the St. Matthew Catholic Church 81st Annual Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 24.
Fr. Kazimierz Oleksy and the parishioners of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton invite everyone to the parish grounds to enjoy a day of fellowship, food and family-friendly fun.
The celebration will begin with Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. The church is located at 1608 Campbell Ave. in Jourdanton (corner of Highway 16 and Maple Street).
The festivities will continue with a hearty meal being served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish hall. We will be serving a delicious three-meat plate with BBQ beef, sausage and our popular fried chicken. Yes, that’s right. We are serving fried chicken! The meal also includes potato salad, coleslaw, beans, tea and a dessert. You can’t get this anywhere else for just $9.
Before you get in line for your BBQ plate, you may want to make your way to the always popular kolache booth. This year we guarantee you’ll want some of these traditional pastries, homemade by our own parishioners at St. Matthew. People come from all over to the picnic for these delicious treats. Come and get some before they run out.
Activities planned throughout the day include: the raffle drawing where you can win one of 27 great prizes, bingo from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in our covered pavilion, and a live auction beginning at 12:15 in the Parish Hall.
There will be plenty of great items for you to bid on at the auction, to get a jump start on Christmas shopping. Tickets for the raffle drawing are $2 each.
New this year is the Buyer’s Bonus Board. Come place your bid and see what it’s all about.
For the kids we will have great outdoor activities such as pony rides, a petting zoo, bouncy house and fish pond. There will be sodas, popcorn, cotton candy and snocones to refuel the kids.
Don’t worry. We have not forgotten about the older crowd. Brush off your chaps; we will have a mechanical bull for you to show off your riding skills and a Laser Shoot to sharpen your shooting for hunting season, which is right around the corner.
Get your dancing shoes ready. Topping off our Fun Day will be a free dance from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring Marcos Orozco and Los Cazadores. No ice chests are allowed.
It looks like St. Matthew Catholic Church on Sunday, Sept. 24 will be the place to be for the whole family! We hope to see you there.
