The parish of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pleasanton is busy putting the final touches on this Sunday’s Parish Picnic on May 3.

Deacon Bennie Garcia and Father Gilberto Vallejo remind everyone that this year’s picnic will be moving to the Atascosa County Showbarn (2209 W. Oaklawn in Pleasanton), due to much-needed renovations at the Parish Hall.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend this day of family entertainment, which includes great food, a raffle drawing, a variety of children’s games and more. It requires the assistance of many to make the annual picnic the great success that it is.

Volunteers will be preparing and serving delicious pit cooked barbecue plates with trimmingsbeans, cole slaw, potato salad and dessert, starting at 11 a.m. for $8 each.

Sally Jaksik and Cindi Carr will be heading up the popular country store and plant store, longtime St. Andrew traditions.

Please note that this year, there will not be bingo.

The exciting, huge auction gets underway at 1 p.m. Juana Benitez said some of the items up for bid include: a 5×8 utility trailer from Ranchscapes, a roping saddle by Comal Saddle Co. (New Braunfels), a 2006 motocross bike, quilts, birdhouses, China cabinet, all kinds of home decor such as crosses, lots of homemade items like salsa and peanut brittle, ceramic pots with plants, some canvas prints, cast iron barbecue pit and smoker, a picnic table and more.

The Parish Hall was built roughly 50 years ago. All proceeds will benefit the Parish Hall Building Fund. The major remodeling project will improve the facility and provide an adequate and safe space for the church’s ministries and service to the community.

The extension of the hall includes more adequate classrooms, as well as a larger hall area. Youth Ministry, ACTS, Knights of Columbus, United Seniors, adult men and women Bible study groups, Lay Ministry Institute, weddings, quinceañeras, funerals and the annual Picnic and Turkey Dinner fundraisers will benefit from this major project.

Join them Sunday and help them raise funds for this worthwhile project.
